Last Wednesday there was lots of excitement in Merlin Woods when the first of our chicks started to hatch. Little cracks started to appear on the egg until finally the chick pushed his way out. By Thursday afternoon we had 6 cute fluffy chicks.
The chicks came to visit our classroom today. We stayed very quiet so we wouldn't frighten them. We each got to hold a little chick- we were very careful and gently as not to hurt them. It is amazing how big they have gotten in only a few days.

Eggciting news in Merlin Woods

We were so excited when farmer John arrived to school with our hatching eggs on Monday. He told us his hen had laid the eggs and he had placed them in the incubator to hatch. He brought us some lovely books and pictures that showed the life cycle of a chick.
We all got an opportunity to go and see the eggs. The incubator keeps the eggs nice and warm until they are ready to hatch.
We learned all about the life cycle of a chick and the different stages- egg, nesting, hatching, chick, hen! We sequenced the pictures so we can tell everyone at home all about the chicks.

Múinteoir Annmarie read the story of the Little Red Hen- we really enjoyed the story.

Sports Day

We had a great Sports Day in Merlin Woods. We loved all the races and activities from spud and spoon, dress-up races, water races, sack...
